Homeless after 17 years active duty, now back on his feet

Dear Sirs and Ma’ams,

I just wanted to write this little letter to say how exceptional, wonderful, and instrumental the Tampa Crossroads was in assisting me in my recovery and getting back on my own two feet. After 17 years active duty in the army I never thought that I would be in the position of being homeless. I served 3 tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan and figured things would be good upon my leaving the service after 22 years.

I was first referred to Mr. Justin Baker by Michelle Keaton at the VHPD program around February of 2012, he along with the others that work there to help Veterans such as myself, were very informative, understanding, and helpful. I cannot say enough about how this group goes the extra mile to ensure first that the individual they are helping, are indeed Veterans, but are not going to take advantage of the help. Justin kept in contact with me very often and if I ever had any questions or concerns I could always contact him and if he did not have the answer, he got the answer and got back to me very quickly.

They assisted me in looking for employment, finding an apartment, getting it furnished, and keeping my spirits moving in a forward direction.

If it were not for this group, I can honestly say that I would not have made it. They assisted me in looking for employment, finding an apartment, getting it furnished, and keeping my spirits moving in a forward direction. I never felt pressured but was always comfortable with speaking with them, and letting them know if I needed anything. There were bumps in the road getting to where we needed to be but they always stuck with me through the good and bad.

I was in the program for about 6 months and with their help I am once again self-sufficient, I am employed full time, have a stable home, and am relatively happy again. I recently was able to purchase a car because I finally was able to get my veterans disability determination finalized.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of them, and if I can be of any assistance to them or another veteran, I only need to be asked and I will help as much as I can. This is an outstanding program, and sensational people. There needs to be more agencies like Tampa Crossroads because they really care about the veteran.
